The first thing to know is what it isn't. It isn't magic and it isn't a belief or a religion. It is simply a technology - a set of simple techniques that use what you have (your mind, senses, and body) to create a communication between you and your mind and between your mind, spirit and your body. Meditation is a time to be with yourself. Meditation is a time to connect with your breath, a time to be present to the life force in your body, a time to re-establish your own rhythm, a time to talk to your higher self, a time to be in love with your unique life. Meditation is between you and YOU. Just like a daily shower cleans your body, a daily meditation cleans your mind to help you focus your energy, stay healthy, and become more kind and feel better. It helps you clear your subconscious and stay fully present in your life. It is an opportunity to create a stillness within yourself where you do not react to the unceasing flow of the mind. You can quickly and comfortably process all sorts of feelings and thoughts, and easily rejuvenate and relax yourself so you can handle stress and cultivate better relationships.
What do I need to bring to a meditation session?
Just bring yourself! Even if that includes all your worries, your pain, stresses, and anxieties and your busy mind. We will take of the rest.
What do I wear?
We do not have a dress code, however, we do recommend you wear something you are comfortable sitting in. We will have different props for you to choose from for your comfort. It is important to note that we do have a “no shoe” policy in the studio so we recommend you bring a cosy pair of socks or slippers if you like. Going barefoot is a nice option too.
What is a good meditation class to start with?
All of our classes are designed to suit everyone’s needs; it doesn’t matter if you are sitting for the first time or if you are sitting for the thousandth time. You will receive from your practice exactly what you need to.
What if my mind wanders and I have a hard time sitting still?
That is what the mind does - it wanders and it wanes. Meditation is not about getting rid of your thoughts; a meditation practice helps you synchronize with them so you don’t become your thoughts. You become the observer of them rather than get caught up within them.
Can I bring my cell phone into the class?
We encourage you to leave your cell phone either at home or in your car. If you choose to bring it to the studio, we have a safe, complimentary cell phone check-in at the front desk and ask that this be done once you enter the studio. We ask this if you to encourage even more relaxation and less distraction. It is also a nice transition before entering into meditation.
What will I sit on?
We offer a mix of Meditation Cushions, Zabutons (all made from organic cotton and organic buckwheat), Back Jack Chairs and blankets which are all complimentary for your comfort. Sitting on the floor is not a requirement in order to receive the benefits of meditation. If you find it difficult to sit on the floor, no problem, we have a bench built into the studio for your comfort.
When should I arrive?
Meditation sessions begin at the exact scheduled time. We recommend you arrive fifteen minutes before your salon is scheduled to begin. While you wait, please enjoy a complimentary organic tea, browse through our book library, or just connect with fellow meditators.
What if I'm late?
We have a strict no late arrival policy. This means that if you arrive after the studio door has shut and the session has started, we invite you to join the next session. It is important that you receive the entire meditation experience and also don’t want to disrupt others who have already begun their meditation. If you arrive late, you are always welcome to sit in our lounge area and enjoy a nice cup of tea, rest, relax and join us for the next practice.
Where do I leave my belongings (coats, purse, phone, etc.)?
We provide stowaways for your belongings and hooks for you coats and jackets. We encourage you to enter the meditation space with just yourself and no cell phone.
How do I know if I am meditating right?
Most importantly, there is no “wrong” way to meditate. Just show up and play full out. You will quickly notice your meditation practice is well on its way. You will already receive massive benefits by just saying "yes" to the practice. A common misconception about meditation is that you have to empty your mind. Instead, try to let your thoughts, feelings, and any emotions you are feeling at the time just flow as if you are sitting back watching a movie on the big screen.
What kind of meditation does Younion offer?
Each Meditation Session has a different offering. At Younion we have a variety of options for you to choose from so there is something for everyone. Depending on the class you choose, your guide may lead you through a Mantra meditation experience, a Mindfulness based experience, a Loving-Kindness Meditation, a Focus/Visualization Meditation experience, or even a Sound Bath Meditation. A variety of other philosophies, modalities and teachings are available as well.
Can I rent the space?
Yes, we rent out the space. Please call our studio for further inquiry.
What is the cancellation policy?
Session bookings can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance only. Any cancellations made within these times will not be credited or refunded. Please call the studio with any enquiries or questions.
